Zonguldak Karaelmas University was established with the 9th Additional Article of the Law No. 3837, which entered into force after being published in the Official Gazette No. 21281 dated 11.07.1992. The name of Zonguldak Karaelmas University was changed to “Bülent Ecevit University” in accordance with Article 18 of Law No. 6287 published in the Official Gazette No. 28261 dated 11.04.2012.
With Article 6 of the Law No. 7141, which entered into force after being published in the Official Gazette dated May 18, 2018 and numbered 30425, the phrases “Bülent Ecevit University” in the title and first paragraph of this article were changed to “Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University”.

Zonguldak, the First Province of the Republic of Turkey; When the sanjaks were abolished according to Article 60 of the Law No. 491 dated April 1, 1924, Zonguldak independent mutasarriflik was made a province.

The roots of the Faculty of Engineering, which constitutes the core of the university, are based on the Mining Engineering School (Yüksek Maadin ve Sanayi Mühendis Mekteb-i Alisi). This school, which is the first school of the Republic of Turkey to train mining engineers, was established in 1924 with the decision of the Ministry of Commerce, taking into account the insufficient amount of “Turkish Mining Technical Personnel”.Zonguldak Open Archieve
